What is DDP?

DDP stands for Disc Description Protocol. A DDP fileset includes all the information needed by a manufacturing plant to create fully Red Book-compatible CDs.

Compared with an Audio CD-R, DDP is a much more robust way of ensuring you get the exact CD you want back from the plant. All CDs contain errors, but the process of error correction for Audio CDs is much weaker, and using one as a master for manufacturing risks passing some of these errors into the production run. Using a DDP fileset avoids this tripwire and has the added advantage that it can be sent via the internet.
